How Children Benefit from Making Friends Through Acting

With Scout the Sheep

Friend making can be nerve-racking & intimidating; we know this… even as adults. 

Although this friend-building process is not foreign to us, we want our next generation to have the foundation in feeling more confident in doing so. 

When your kids enter the YPT Drama School space, we are encouraging them to speak up, and have the courage to speak to new friends. This includes learning about shared interests, trying collaborative games and sharing ideas. Children that enroll in our theater programs all have a particular interest in the performing arts. This is fantastic because by actively participating in the activities in our classrooms, we can support the development of important social skills.

The socialization aspect of drama is essential in the real world as they grow and mature into teenagers and adults. We understand how speaking up in a meeting can make us feel, how voicing our opinion and how dealing with day-to-day communication feels around peers and family. Yet, by laying the foundation early for children, with the collaborative nature of drama classes, it provides a supportive environment where children build up their self esteem. This confidence building enables them to express themselves more effectively and to navigate social situations with greater ease.

All of this to say, communication skills improve with practice, but we will facilitate the exploration of this in a way that is fun with news ideas! Finding the courage to try joining class can be nerve-racking and intimidating at first, but we know that children find their voices more easily when encouraged to do so here at YPT!
