NEW! Mini Ensemble is a performance-based program for students in Grades 4–6 who are ready to take their theatrical technique to the next level!

Students in Mini Ensemble work with a professional director over 18 weeks to rehearse and perform a 20–30 minute scripted play on the YPT stage. With a focus on ensemble-building, creative exploration, and performance technique, this program is ideal for young artists who are excited to dive deeper into the rehearsal process and bring a story to life!

We are pleased to welcome Makenzie Hay as the Mini Ensemble Director for 2026.

What to Expect from Mini Ensemble:

• Rehearse and perform a 20–30 minute published play from start to finish
• Build acting and performance skills in a collaborative, supportive environment
• Discover what it takes to bring a production to life — from script to stage — alongside like-minded peers.

Mini Ensemble is not an audition-based program; however, we are seeking students who are enthusiastic about taking part in a higher-commitment experience.

Applicants must fill out an Expression of Interest form and attend the audition workshop on November 28. Expression of Interest forms will open on Nov. 15 at 9AM and close on Nov. 18 at 6PM.

We will move forward with the first 12 completed and eligible applications received, and any additional applicants will be placed on a waiting list.

Questions on the Expression of Interest form should be completed by the applicant. No more than a paragraph per answer. The questions on the expression of interest form will be:

1. Are you currently enrolled or have you previously participated in any drama classes or programs with YPT or other arts organizations?
2. Why are you interested in joining the Mini Ensemble? What are you hoping to learn?
3. If you could pretend to be a character from a book, TV show, or movie for a day who would you be and why?
4. How will you be a committed and dedicated member of this Mini Ensemble?
5. What are your other interests, talents, and/or passions outside of theatre? (e.g. I can play violin, I play tabletop RPGs, I am a baker, I love to read, I am a competitive soccer player etc.)

We are hosting two Zoom information sessions for applicants looking for more details.

• Wednesday, Nov. 12, 7-7:30PM.

Please Note:

• Applications through the Expression of Interest form will open Nov. 15 at 9AM and close on Nov. 18 at 6PM
• The first 12 eligible participants will be asked to attend a mandatory audition workshop on Friday, November 28th from 5:30 pm-7:00pm.
• No one will be eliminated at this stage, but it will be a chance for applicants to determine if it is the right fit for them.
• Mini Ensemble’s final performance will be held the weekend of June 6-7, 2026
• Please note there are no classes on February 14, March 21, April 4, and May 16, 2026.
