Description
The following classes begin online on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021.
The winter term is 8 weeks and ends on Mar. 6, 2021.
Please note: Winter registration is open until the second class! If a class has already begun, please email dsassistant@youngpeoplestheatre.org for more information.
Class Requirements:
- We ask that a parent or caregiver is nearby, in the event a participant requires technical support. In the case of our JK – Gr. 4 students, we ask that a parent or caregiver is either present, or very nearby to assist with the student’s engagement or to provide support during the class.
- Below are some technical requirements needed for the best success of each participant:
- A stationary camera and screen, such as a computer, laptop, iPad or tablet
- Stable internet that allows for extended video calls
- PLEASE NOTE: Cell phones cannot be used to participate in class
- A microphone, which could be a headset or part of the computer.
- An adequate space that allows for movement free of physical hazards within the frame of the camera
JK-SK
Participants will engage in songs, creative games and imaginative prompts that get them up on their feet, developing emotional and physical awareness and control, and building their creative confidence as they express themselves through movement and improvisation. There are also optional follow-up activities that include arts and crafts, puppet making and drawing. (30 minutes).

Grade 1-2
Through imaginative games, and gesture and movement work, participants will develop their ability to express themselves verbally and physically, building a confidence in their own creative ideas and their capacity to collaborate. There are also optional follow-up activities that include arts and crafts, puppet making and drawing. (60 minutes).

Grade 3-4
By engaging in imaginative games, playing with different voices and exploring creative ways to express themselves physically, participants will deepen their drama skills. This term focuses on story-building, character creation and performance techniques. (60 minutes).

Grade 5-6
This fun, active class, will provide participants the chance to get up and create on their feet, deepening their drama skills through improvisation, mime and character work, with a focus on narrative structure and scene development. (90 minutes).

Grade 7-8
This term we take play to the next level! Through theatre games and improvisation, participants will broaden their character building skills, investigate narrative structure, and how to create scenes. (120 minutes).

Junior Ensemble (Gr. 7-8)
Winter & Spring
A comprehensive program designed for young actors in Gr. 7 and 8 who demonstrate a readiness for more advanced theatre training and wish to create and perform their own play. Admission is by online audition. Auditions will take place over the course of two days. Learn more.

Senior Company is an advanced program is for committed students seeking to train intensively in the craft of acting. Through a combination of working on a short play and professional workshops, Senior Company members will learn how to lift the script off the page, and explore their voice as creative artists. Who Says We Can’t Have Drama Club! (Gr. 9 – 12)
Are you sick of being online – divided and cut off from after-school teams and activities? Can any fun be had on Zoom? YPT’s online drama classes may be what you need. Whether you are interested in performing or writing – we rant, riff, improvise, collaborate and laugh while teasing out all the fun – and drama – that can be had in every activity. YPT Drama School online – definitely NOT boring. (120 minutes).
